From your departure continent to your final safari destination, every connection matters. Travelling from Japan—or anywhere else—to Kenya means coordinating international flights, airport arrivals, connecting journeys, accommodation and the adventure ahead.
Your Kenya journey starts before you board the plane. When comparing flights from Japan to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi, consider the complete journey: connections, layover time, baggage allowances and your arrival schedule.
Monolith Africa helps coordinate what happens when you land. Share your flight itinerary, and we can help arrange airport pickup, hotel drop-off and onward transport through suitable transport providers and tour companies. If your safari includes a flight from Wilson Airport, include that connection so the ground transfer can be planned with sufficient time.
Before travelling, check the entry requirements applicable to your passport through Kenya’s official eTA portal and the Kenyan Embassy in Japan. For a more relaxed start, consider an overnight stay in Nairobi before your road safari.
Getting from Nairobi Airport to Your Hotel: Let Us Coordinate Your Arrival
Your Kenya arrival can be organised right here. Through Monolith Africa and our transport partners, we help coordinate your airport pickup, hotel drop-off and onward safari journey—giving you one contact to bring the arrangements together.
Share your flight number, arrival date, passenger count, luggage details and accommodation address. We’ll use these details to source suitable transport and confirm the pickup meeting point, price, waiting allowance and arrangements for flight delays before you book.
Travelling alone, with family or as a group? We help match the vehicle to your passengers and luggage. If you have not chosen accommodation, include your budget and preferences so suitable options can be considered alongside your transfers.
From airport arrival to your hotel, safari departure and return drop-off, tell us what you need in your Kenya Trip Wishlist. We’ll help coordinate the journey and provide clear booking details through the selected providers.
Where Should You Stay in Nairobi? Match Your Location to Your Budget
Your ideal Nairobi stay depends on your budget, preferred surroundings and travel plans. You can stay near the airport for convenient transfers or choose accommodation farther away for a different experience.
Airport-area accommodation can be practical after a late arrival or before an early flight. However, aircraft and road noise vary by property—check recent guest reviews if quiet surroundings matter to you.
Consider Lang’ata, Upper Hill, Westlands, Parklands, Karen or Runda, depending on where you plan to spend your time. These areas offer different accommodation options; a neighbourhood’s name alone does not guarantee a quiet room or a particular price.
Thika is much farther from JKIA and is worth considering when your itinerary includes that area. A lower room rate may come with higher transfer costs and longer journeys.
Nairobi to Maasai Mara by Road
A common road journey heads west from Nairobi along Waiyaki Way towards the Mai Mahiu route, then continues through the Great Rift Valley and Narok before reaching the appropriate Mara gate.
The final route depends on your camp or lodge. Travel time also varies with traffic, weather, road conditions and stops, so allow a substantial part of the day for the transfer.
Ask whether your quotation includes a suitable safari vehicle, driver-guide, game drives and accommodation transfers. A city taxi transfer and a complete safari package provide different services.
Can You Fly to the Maasai Mara?
Yes. Safari flights operate from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Mara airstrips.
Wilson is a separate airport from JKIA. If connecting after your international arrival, allow time for immigration, baggage collection and the road transfer between airports.
Confirm the correct airstrip for your lodge, baggage restrictions and transport from the airstrip to your accommodation.
