Why Are New Generation Number Plates Important?

The new generation number plates are designed to improve road safety, strengthen vehicle identification, and enhance security. The reflective design makes registration numbers easier to read during the day and at night while helping law enforcement verify vehicle details more efficiently.

Step 1: Log Into the NTSA Service Portal

Visit your eCitizen account and access the NTSA Service Portal.

Navigate to:

Vehicle Registration

Then select:

Apply for Reflective Plate

This starts the online application process.

Step 2: Select Your Vehicle

Choose the vehicle you wish to apply for.

Ensure the vehicle is registered under your NTSA account before proceeding.

Step 3: Choose "New Generation Plate"

Under the available application reasons, select:

New Generation Plate

This tells the system you're replacing your current registration plate with the latest version.

Step 4: Select Notification Method

Choose how you'd like NTSA to communicate with you.

Most applicants select SMS notifications, allowing them to receive updates whenever the application progresses.

Step 5: Choose Plate Format

Select the preferred number plate style.

Depending on your vehicle category, you may choose:

• Square
• Oblong

Step 6: Upload Supporting Documents

You'll be required to upload:

• Original logbook (PDF)
• Front number plate photo
• Rear number plate photo

Ensure the uploaded documents are clear and easy to read to avoid delays.

Step 7: Select Collection Centre

Choose the NTSA collection centre where you'd like to collect your new number plates.

You'll also enter the identification details of the person collecting the plates.

Step 8: Pay the Application Fee

The application fee for new generation motor vehicle number plates is:
