The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has made it easier for motorcycle owners to apply for new generation number plates through its online service portal. Instead of making multiple visits to NTSA offices, riders can now complete most of the application process digitally before collecting the new plate from their selected collection centre.

Whether you're replacing an old motorcycle number plate or complying with NTSA requirements, understanding the application process can help you avoid unnecessary delays.

Why Introduce New Generation Motorcycle Number Plates?

The new generation motorcycle number plates are designed to improve vehicle identification, enhance road safety, and strengthen security. They also support better enforcement by making it easier for authorities to identify registered motorcycles operating on Kenyan roads.

For boda boda riders and private motorcycle owners, upgrading to the new number plate helps ensure compliance with NTSA requirements.

Step 1: Log Into the NTSA Portal

Visit the NTSA Service Portal through your eCitizen account.

Once logged in, select:

Vehicle Registration

Then choose the option to Apply for Reflective Plate.

Step 2: Select Your Motorcycle

Choose the motorcycle registered under your account and click Next to continue with the application.

Ensure the registration details match your official NTSA records.

Step 3: Choose "New Generation Plate"

Under the available options, select:

New Generation Plate

This tells the system that you're applying for the latest motorcycle number plate.

Step 4: Choose Your Notification Method

Select how you would like to receive application updates.

Most applicants choose SMS notifications, allowing NTSA to notify them when the application progresses or when the number plate is ready for collection.

Step 5: Select Plate Format

Choose your preferred motorcycle number plate format.

The system allows you to select the appropriate motorcycle plate design before proceeding.

Step 6: Upload the Required Documents

Applicants are required to upload:

  • A scanned PDF copy of the original logbook.
  • A clear image of the current rear motorcycle number plate.

Ensure both documents are clear and readable to avoid delays during verification.

Step 7: Choose a Collection Centre

Select the NTSA collection centre where you would like to collect your new motorcycle number plate.

You'll also be required to provide an identification number for the person collecting the plate.

Step 8: Pay the Application Fee

The application fee for a new generation motorcycle number plate is:
